Betty Lou Seashore

September 19, 1937 — April 28, 2020

Indianapolis, Indiana

Betty L. (Banks) Seashore passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2020. She was born in St. Michael, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1937 to Thomas and Alberta Banks. She is survived by her brother George (and his wife Laverne) Banks, her son Douglas E. Seashore (and his wife Tracey) and her daughter Stephanie S. Wachter (and her husband Steven). She is also survived by her sweet, beloved grandchildren Chase and Bailey Seashore and Emily, Jakob, and Andrew Wachter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sandra Sue Banks (1942) and her oldest son Gregory S. Seashore (2014). She is also survived by her former husband, Gregory F. Seashore. She succumbed to the effects of dementia, but not before living a full and happy 82 years on this earth.

Betty worked for the telephone company in Ohio early in her adult life, then did not work while raising her children. She rejoined the workforce around age 50, going to work for an airline charter company. Around that time, she also went to college and earned an Accounting Certificate. She then went to work for GTE and the successor company Verizon. She started out in the travel department, then became the main receptionist for the building. She loved that position because every person in the building knew her and chatted with her daily. She was a hard worker; she would show up early, always fulfilled her responsibilities with pride and dignity, and even cleaned up after the geese that cruised the front sidewalk.

Betty loved the Lord and her family, including the Catholic Community of St. Gabriel Church, as well as her many marvelous friends and neighbors. She adored her children and especially her grandchildren. She was extremely generous, and there was nothing she would not do for her family. She spent many days and nights watching her grandchildren’s ball games, musical performances, awards ceremonies, plays, as well as attending their tea parties, St. Patrick’s Day parties, Easter dinners, and Christmas celebrations. She also hosted numerous Thanksgiving meals for which her family is still grateful. She loved the many summers she spent on Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. She was frugal, very well-organized and she kept excellent records. She was a grateful and helpful dinner guest. She always sent thank you cards for even the smallest kindness shown to her. She also loved to receive cards, and we think she kept every one of them! She enjoyed planting flowers and caring for them. Betty was an avid Colts fan and was always excited when Peyton Manning and the Colts won. She also enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers, especially in the Reggie Miller era. She loved listening to Luciano Pavarotti, and her favorite song was Ave Maria. She never liked to celebrate her birthday, so instead, we would celebrate random holidays on her special day, or make up new ones, and she got such a kick out of that.

Betty was living her best life when she was serving others. She served on various committees at her church, and she was a huge supporter of the West Group of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association. She held several leadership positions for West Group throughout the years and was named their Volunteer of the Year in 2007. She also volunteered several times at the Brickyard Classic Golf Tournament in Speedway.

Betty had several life long friends that she dearly loved, and she also had a great friendship with several of her Twin Oaks neighbors and the neighborhood children.  She was dearly loved by all who knew, and she will be greatly missed.  She was a blessing to us all.

A graveside service will be held for family only on Friday May 08, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery 435 West Troy Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46225 Flower may be sent to the cemetery if so desired.
