Betty Katherine Reed

Betty K. Word Reed (87) of Noblesville, IN departed this world on March 10, 2024.  She was born in Holdenville, OK to James Warren Word and Ida May Josephine Barber, attended Bethany High School (1955) and graduated from Phillips University in Enid, OK with a BA in Christian Education and Scriptures in 1959.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Rev. William R. Reed.  She is survived by her four sons: R. Brooks Reed (Athena) of Noblesville, IN; Benjamin J. Reed (Mary) of Panama City Beach, FL; Robin B. Reed (Julie) of Clarksville, TN; and Barrett J. Reed (Meili) of Lexington, KY.  She was so proud of her sons and of her 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Jamey Lou Faddah of Germantown, TN.

She was active in all of the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Churches that she and her husband served (Yates Center, KS, Columbia, TN, Clarksville, TN, Collierville, TN), working as Christian Education director and choir director at several.  She also worked as secretary at Graceland Christian Church in Southaven, MS and University Christian Church in Memphis, TN, Christian Education director at Decatur-Trinity Christian Church in Bartlett, TN, and as interim staff for women for the Christian Church (DoC) in TN.  Most recently she served as interim choir director and a faithful member at First Christian Church in Noblesville, IN.  She was a past member of AAUW and served as a local president for Church Women United in Clarksville, TN and state president and treasurer for TN CWU.  She organized and coordinated Meals On Wheels in Clarksville, TN and volunteered for Meals On Wheels in Noblesville, IN until the time of her death.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Christian Church, 16377 Herriman Blvd, Noblesville, IN  46060 on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 11 am. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service.  Memorials may be sent to that same church or to Meals On Wheels Of Hamilton County, 395 Westfield Rd., Noblesville, IN 46060-1425.
