Betty Ellen Ferrell
Indianapolis, died July 31, 2012. Services: 1 p.m. Aug. 4 in Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East .
Betty was born June 13, 1931 in Herrin Illinois to DelBert and Callie
Gertrude (Gertie) Cheatham. Her full name is Betty Ellen Cheatham. Her
siblings were Arbie,Troy, Loreen, Leon, Rosalie and Jerry. She went to
school at Chittyville Elementary and to Herrin High School. She also
attended Southern Illinois University for a year and a term. She loved
roller skating and was very good at it.
As a young adult she worked at Sangamo were she met the love of her life
Harry Ferrell. They had a courtship of about nine months before they were
wed on July 27, 1956 in Herrin, Illinois. In 1956 they moved to
Indianapolis.
Once in Indiana they started a family and had Debbie in 1957, Beth in 1963
and Callie in 1970. They attended Southport Nazarene Church for several
years before moving to the Lawrence area, where they attended Lawrence
Nazarene Church. In later years they also attended First church of the
Nazarene. Betty was very active in church choir, the young adult programs,
and childrens programs.
In her latter years she enjoyed traveling, vacations, the beach, shopping,
Pepsi! and all her grandkids, of which there are nine, and three great
grandkids.
One of Betty's favorite pastimes was to get in the car and just go for a
ride with her family, no particular destination in mind, but just to ride.
Who knows where they might end up.
John 3:16 was an important scripture for her and she taught it to a lot of
people who's lives she touched, including her daughters, grandchildren and
Sunday School students
