Betty Burns

April 14, 1921 — January 6, 2014

Betty was born on April 14, 1921 and died January 6, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel, her brother Fred and her husband of 65 years, Bob. She is survived by her two wonderful sons Ran (Shirley) and Scott (Colleen), 6 grandchildren: Chris, Carrie (Billy), Logan, Lindsay (Josh), Scout, and Reilly; and 4 great-grandchildren: Sidney, Kendall, Brady, and Tatum. Betty lived an active life. She loved animals (particularly horses and dogs), dancing, and shopping. Over the years she was involved in countless outreach programs including volunteering at Crossroads Rehabilitation Center and Tabernacle Presbyterian's Soup Kitchen. There was a time that there wasn't a family member or friend who didn't have an elaborate hand-made "something" from Betty. She spent the year sewing for the Tab Fund-raising Craft Fair every year. Her hand-stitched ornaments, dolls, and quilts are amazing and are items that will be handed down from generation to generation. She was a good cook –most lauded for her homemade chili! (Mmmmmm…) She was committed to making sure all the boys in her life lived color-coordinated and all the girls kept their hair long. Betty had two great loves of her life: "Randy Robert" and" Scott Lee". If either walked into the room, she lit up like a Christmas tree, delighted to the very end to see them. She raised her boys to be gentlemen who are gentle men. She was committed to their health, happiness, and spiritual well-being and passed to them a deep devotion to God. Her legacy is carried on through her grandchildren: Chris, like Betty, never met a stranger and easily talks to everyone. When you meet Carrie, you'll feel Betty's warm and caring heart, in Logan, you find a quiet hero who gets things done without fanfare. With Lindsay you'll see her no-nonsense attitude. When you look at Scout, you'll see Betty's deep dimples and infectious smile. Talk to Reilly for a few minutes and you'll get a sense of her flair for fashion. In all of them you see she passed to them her desire to reflect Jesus in their daily lives. In every interaction she showed grace and taught them all to trust God a little more. While she will be greatly missed, we take solace in knowing that if there are malls in heaven, Betty is on a shopping spree right now with her sister. "Well done good and faithful servant."
