Betty Lou Burney

Betty (James) Burney of Fishers, IN, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born in Morristown IN, on October 4, 1925, to parents, Glenn and Nell (Keaton) James. Her family moved to a farm outside Spiceland, IN, where Betty graduated from Spiceland High School, class of ’43. Betty received a full scholarship to Purdue University in home economics, however she chose a different path. 

She moved to Indianapolis, met and married John D. Burney on August 29th, 1948. They spent the next 67 wonderful years together until his passing in 2015. She is survived by her son, J. Douglas (Susie) Burney, grandchildren, Shannon (Nate) Christie, J.D. (Emilie) Burney; great-grandchildren, Reagan, Riley, and Quinn Christie, Everleigh, Ainsleigh, and Palmer Burney. 

She is predeceased by her sister, Ruth Larabee and her brother, Albert James. Betty was the oldest living member of Christ Presbyterian Church of McCordsville, IN where she had many friends. 

Graveside services will be held at 1pm, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan Oaklawn Memorial Gardens – Good Shepherd Chapel (9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN).
