Indianapolis, Indiana – Betty “Red” Balderson passed away peacefully at home with her family beside her on October 31, 2025. A woman of discerning taste, Betty was iron wrapped in velvet, and her strength and love will be missed by all who knew her.
Betty was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on November 5, 1936, and raised in Mecca, Indiana. Betty’s life was forever changed when she met her beloved husband, Robert Balderson, and they were married in 1952. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Robert’s untimely passing in 2008.
After her marriage, Betty took on the hardest job of all, becoming a homemaker. With Robert, she raised two daughters and was a constant in their lives. Whenever she was needed, Betty was there. Not only for her husband or their daughters, but in her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives as well. They all grew up with her protection and care.
Betty was always a hard worker, even at a young age. Even when relaxing she loved to keep moving, becoming an accomplished, gold level ballroom dancer with Robert. In her later years she took up gardening and you could always count on her house to be immaculate.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Balderson and daughter Kimberley Mann.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law Jim and Michelle Jones; son-in-law Dennis Mann (Julie); grandchildren Nichole Pepper, Benjamin Jones, and Christopher Jones (Alexandra); and great-grandchildren Garrett King and Audrey Pulley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park (9350 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229) from 9 am – 10:30 am with funeral services following at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Betty's name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
