Betty Blackard Tafflinger, 85, of Indianapolis, a model of traditional family values, died October 14, 2015 surrounded by the deep love of her family.
She was a devoted wife, mother of three, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
Looking back over the years it was obvious her family came first. She was dedicated to giving her best to those she loved and no matter what your relationship with her was at the time, for all families go through times when things are less than perfect, your confidence in her love for you and that she would be there for you were absolute.
The seventh of fourteen children, Betty was born October 23, 1929, in Evansville, IN. to the late John Haywood and Cena Clyde (Wade) Blackard.
She moved to Indianapolis, IN where she met and married Charles L. Tafflinger, an Indianapolis Firefighter (Ret) for the Indianapolis Fire Department.
Betty was a talented and organized homemaker. She was also an excellent seamstress, making clothes, accessories, and intricate Halloween costumes for grandkids.
Bettys hobbies included collecting Beanie Babies, Pewter Figurines, traveling, and gambling. The riverboat casinos were a favorite and she always gave the one armed bandits a run for their money! She snow skiied for several years and regularly skiied the blue lines. She also tried water skiing once, having less than stellar results, but at least she tried!
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Charles L. Tafflinger; sons, C. Scott Tafflinger of Lebanon, IN and Tim (Jennifer) Tafflinger; daughter, Carol Sue Schulz; sisters, Sharon Qualters (Joe), and Carol Murrell of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Christopher Rogers, Karl Schulz, Molly Schulz (Brad Nabholz), and Ryan Tafflinger (Sidney), and one great grandchild, Charlie Rogers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
