Bette Louise Woods Rich
was born in Clinton, IN, in 1924. Detail-oriented and thorough, she honed her bookkeeping skills throughout her life. She met Watson W. Rich while working at a bank in Gary, IN. They married in 1947 and were married for 46 years. Together they built a business, Bill Rich Travel Service, Inc., during the 1970s and 1980s.
Bette worked steadily as a bookkeeper well into her 70's, serving in that capacity for Hasten Hebrew Academy, ARNOVA, and Barrington Jewels. She was the treasurer for Progressive Spiritualist Church.
She loves flowers and gardening and her family. Her children, Pamela Rich Estes, Watson W. Rich III, and Andrea Rich survive her, along with her son-in-law, Jim Estes, 3 grandchildren (Leigh Crawford, Jessi Gunter, and Adam Estes,) her grandson-in-law, Brian Crawford, and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 4pm in Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple, with a visitation from 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Woods Society (Attn.: Kevin Gardner, P.O. Box 249, University, MS 38677).
