Betsy Blakley

Betsy Ellen Brown Blakley 94 Betsy was born on August 29th, 1917 in Chicago, IL to William D. Brown and Ellen Davies Brown. She graduated from Moline High School, Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and then went on to the American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL. She was an employee of the Moline Daily Dispatch in the Advertising Department, where she was one of their head artists. She was a charter member of the Alice Kennedy Circle of Kings Daughters. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Moline, IL, where she was baptized. In 1972 Betsy married John H. Blakley and moved to Indianapolis where she was active with Crossroads Volunteer Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She attended Habits of the Heart Bible Study for many years. Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Blakley, one sister, Marion Sorg and one brother, Tom Brown. Betsy is survived by her sister Harriett Paschall, four step-sons, John H. (Lucia) Blakley, Jr., James S. (Patty) Blakley, Joseph D. Blakley and partner William L. Fortune, Jr., Benjamin E. (Brenda) Blakley, and one step-daughter Julia A. (Glen) Blackburn; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by three nieces, Sara Olson (Ron), Ann Halsted (Dan), Cynthia Brown, and one nephew, Tom Brown (Nancie); by one great niece, one great nephew, two great-great nieces and two great-great nephews. Betsy loved traveling, knitting, cross stitch, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing bridge with friends and being with her family. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 9:00-11:00 am at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, with a Memorial Service following at 11:00. Memorial contributions can be made to Crossroads Volunteer Association c/o Crossroads Rehabilitation Center 4740 Kingsway Dr. Indianapolis, IN 46205.
