In Loving Memory of Bethel Dennis Whitley

Dennis Whitley, 88, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. He was born on September 17, 1937, in Smiths Grove, Kentucky, to Rennick Whitley and Lena Hudson Whitley.

A graduate of Smiths Grove High School, Dennis spent many years with the U.S. Rubber Company, eventually becoming a co-owner. He was a longtime member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church and a proud U.S. Army veteran who served as a Military Police officer in Korea.

Dennis married the love of his life, Patricia Whitley, and they shared 63 years of marriage. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and competitive spirit — especially on the golf course and at the card table, where he never minded a little friendly competition (and liked to win).

He is survived by his grandson, Anthony Justin (Noel) Whitley; great-grandchildren Isabelle, Collin, Irely, Isla, and Indi; and siblings-in-law Richard (Phyllis) Jackson, LaDonna (Rick) Herrin, and Cyndie (Mike) Taylor, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his son, Anthony "Tony" Whitley; his brother, Albert Whitley, and Albert's wife, Francis; his sister, Brenda (Franky) Bridges; and his sister-in-law, Carol Ground, and her husband, Charles.

Dennis will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the games he loved to play. He will be deeply missed by all who know him.
