Bertil Johnson

October 24, 1926 — January 12, 2016

Bertil Johnson, 89, of Fishers and Sarasota, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles and Margit Johnson. Bert was very proud to be a first generation Swedish-American and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He shared a beautiful life with Polly, his wife, of 69 years. A gentle soul, who was rich in love, Bert knew he was one “lucky dog.” The proof is in the legacy of his son David (Wilai) and daughter Janice (John) Snell and grandchildren Sam (Greta), Carly (Joey) and Logan Snell, Auy and Ong Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother Dick Johnson.

Bert served in the US Navy during WWII. Following, he worked for General Motors for 32 years as an engineer in Anderson, IN. Bert was well known in the community as a Boy Scout Leader, who embraced others as family. At the age of 58 Bert retired to Sarasota, Florida to enjoy beach walks with Polly, golfing on Bobby Jones and the adventure of coastal living with family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Visitation will be held Sunday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 8115 Oaklandon Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46236, from 1:30pm until 3pm. Funeral services will begin at 3pm. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
