Berniece B. Capes, 88, of Speedway, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010. She was born on November 8, 1921 in Grant County, IN to Lotus and Ethel (Linton) Bramblett. Berniece graduated from Ball State Teachers College, and received her Masters Degree from Butler University. She taught in the Wayne Township School System until her retirement in 1982. Berniece was also a founding member of Chapel Rock Christian Church, active in the Red Hat Society, the Wayne Township Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Paul Capes; children, Paul Ray (Carl Etta) Capes, Steven (Anne) Capes, Heather (Jeff) Terrell, Judith Carlson, E. Lou (Robert) Jones, John H. (Sharon) Allen; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Bockmon of Florida. Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dean S. Garrison; and 3 brothers. Funeral Services for Mrs. Capes will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Speedway, on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 10am. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4 until 8pm, also at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the People First Home Care Hospice, or to Chapel Rock Christian Church.
