Born on December 16, 1938 in St. Kitts and Nevis. Daughter of Bradmon Smith and Alice Williams. Went to be with GOD after a long battle with Alzheimer's at 4am on January 27, 2016 in Indiana. Bernice moved to Tatola the British Virgin Islands, where she met Vincent Barry and gave birth to Bradmon Barzey the eldest of 6 children. Some years later Bernice moved to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands met and married Elmo Bryan, and gave birth to 5 more children. Adina, Elmo, Gurth Basil and Rochelle. In 1978 Bernice moved with her 5 youngest to Florida while her eldest pursued a career with the US Airforce.

For the next 27 years Bernice focused on providing for her children; making sure they had a roof over their heads, food and an education, before her diagnosis with Alzheimer's. Despite becoming a single parent she always made a way to provide, not only for her children, but for many other children she cared for with a career in child care and development. Bernice made it a point to continue her education knowing the importance of developing and growing your knowledge. Bernice was not only a provider, but a woman who had joy ingrained in her bones. Always with a smile, taking funny pictures and the best laugh in the world.

Bernice is survived by her 6 children; Bradmon, Adina, Elmo and his wife Tessa, Gurth and his wife Roxanne , Basil and his wife Amanda and Rochelle. She is also survived by her 7 siblings; Paul Smith, Flora Donavon, Desme St. Clair, Joycelyn Gumbs, Willo Smith, Noel Smith and Elvis Edwards. Bernice also had 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Bernice will join her two siblings those who processed her; George Smith and Vernice Wilkins, and her granddaughter Zoe

Bernice L. Bryan's funeral will be held on February 4, 2016 at Flanner & Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46229. Phone number 317-899-7115. There will be a family viewing from 9am – 10am, and public viewing from 10am -12pm. Services will start at 12pm.
