Obituary
Bernard Irvin Heeke
April 19, 1925 – September 25, 2023
Bernard was born in Siberia, Perry County, Indiana to Frank and Bertha (Tempel) Heeke. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the 78th Infantry Division in Germany where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Upon returning home, he attended Indiana State Teachers College where he received BS and MS degrees. Bernard was a teacher and administrator with the Indianapolis Public Schools for 36 years where he taught at School #3 and Arlington High School.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myra Heeke, daughter Laura Pattridge (Kent), sons Eric Heeke (Susie) and Neil Heeke (Gail), 4 granddaughters Kaitlyn Herman (Eric), Lauren Threet (Mitch), Paige Heeke, Alexandra Gluck (Colin), and great grandsons Brendan and Caleb Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Hagen, Emma Cuneo, Marie Ernst, Blanche Heun, Irene Antill, and Marietta Flamion, brothers Fred Heeke and Arnold Heeke.
Bernard was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, American Legion Post #34, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7119, Disabled American Veterans, and the Purple Heart Foundation. Over the years he volunteered numerous hours of his time to his church and organizations in his community.
