Obituary

Beatrice "Bede" Ludwina Pasterz, born on May 7, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026. A woman of profound faith and boundless generosity, Bede was a cherished figure whose life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Raised in the city of Chicago, Bede was deeply influenced by her close relationship with her family, especially her father, whom she admired greatly as a role model. Her early education in Catholic schools not only provided academic foundation but also nurtured her steadfast devotion to her Catholic faith—a devotion that shaped her character and guided her actions throughout her life.

On September 23, 1967, Bede married Edward James Pasterz, the love of her life, marking the beginning of a cherished partnership. As a devoted wife, she embraced the role with grace and love, which soon expanded with the arrival of her children, bringing immense joy and purpose to her days. Her greatest pride was found in her family; as a loving mother and grandmother, she instilled in each member the values of kindness, generosity, and grace that she embodied so fully.

Known for her selflessness, Bede was the person who would give the shirt off her back. She cared deeply for others, extending her compassion beyond her family’s circle. She volunteered at nursing homes, offering comfort and companionship to those without family, embodying the true spirit of service and love.

Bede is survived by her loving husband Edward Pasterz; children and spouses; Christine (John) O’Hara, Greg (Alex) Pasterz, John (Sharon) Pasterz. Grandchildren Benjamin Pasterz, Emily Pasterz, Neill Pasterz, Jake O’Hara and Heather Paxton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Father Charles Rea and Mother Bernice Rea.
