Basil D. Basil, 78, of Indianapolis died Thursday, 4/28/16, at home. Basil was born in Boston, MA on October 12, 1937, the son of James and Ethel (DeMales) Basil. He graduated from Greenfield (MA) High School in 1955.
Basil served in the U.S. Army from September of 1956 to September, 1958 and was stationed in Germany. After returning home, he attended Northampton Commercial College graduating in 1960. He then moved to Indianapolis, where he has lived for over fifty years, to work in sales management.
Basil enjoyed boating on Dale Hollow Lake in Kentucky with his family and friends and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
Besides his sister, Elaine Holden and her husband William of Greenfield, MA, Basil leaves his children Belinda Arnold and Gabriel Brooking of Indiana. He was predeceased by his son Nathan Brooking. He also leaves six grandchildren, Lillian Arnold, Tyler and Haley Brooking, and Samantha, Spencer & Nathan Brooking, nephews and nieces, and many great nephews and nieces.
Basil was a member of the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church of Indianapolis.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
