Barry was born February 28, 1963, and lived over half of his life in Pittsboro , Indiana. Barry graduated from Tri-West High School in 1981, Indiana University with his bachelor’s degree in marketing, and an associate's degree in fire science from Vincennes University.
Barry was married to Cheryl for 41 years having two sons Nicholas and Jacob and one grandson Atlas. He is also survived by his father Berlie, his sister Rhonda and his brother Gary.
Barry loved being a fire fighter where he dedicated most of his life. Barry started out at as Jr firefighter at Pittsboro, and serving as a volunteer firefighter for three years before being hired on at the Indianapolis Fire Department on February 1986.
Barry proudly achieved the rank of Batallion Chief showing commitment, dedication, leadership, responsibility to his fellow firefighters and community.
Barry also worked as an EMT for Indiana University Hospital and Gainbridge Fieldhouse working special events at Lucas Oil Stadium, Victory Field, Indianapolis Convention Center, and Gainbridge Fieldhouse alongside with his wife Cheryl.
Barry’s hobbies which included his best friend, Wayne, and his son, Jacob were hiking many trails including the Appalachian and Kalalau Trail. He enjoyed traveling, collecting baseball cards and root beer memorabilia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) from 4 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East at 12 pm. In honor of his service with the Indianapolis Fire Department, a pass-by of his final post will take place after funeral services.
