Barbara Rutherford Weddle May 21, 1932 – July 15, 2012 Barbara Rutherford Weddle, 80, of Indianapolis, Ind. passed away July 15, 2012. Born May 21, 1932, in Martinsville, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Marvin E. and Georgia Cain. She retired from The Indianapolis Star in 2000, where she worked as the Administrative Assistant to the CFO. Barbara was devoted to her family, her church and to serving others through volunteer work. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who cherished time spent with family and always put others first. When she wasn't taking care of her family, she was serving others through her church and volunteer work. She received the Mayors Volunteer Partnership Award from Mayor Steven Goldsmith in 1998 for her extensive volunteer work helping Habitat for Humanity, working with the poor in Appalachia and aiding the Navajo Indians in New Mexico. Her true passion was volunteering at the Wheeler Mission (Men's Ministry) on a weekly basis. She was an active member of Broad Ripple Methodist Church, where she was blessed to have met her loving husband, Roy Weddle whom she married in 2001. She is survived by her husband, Roy Weddle; son, Mark (Jennifer) Rutherford; daughter, Dawn (Bobby) Michels; step daughters Cindy (Paul) Metzler, Sherry (Phil) Cascione, six grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and sister, Phyllis A. Bennett. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Cain. Visitation will be Friday, July 20 from 4:00pm-8:00pm, at Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple. Services will be Saturday July 21 at 11:00am at Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, 6185 Guilford Ave. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
