Heaven welcomed Barbara June Tobey (Justus) to her eternal home, on the morning of December 24, 2017.
Barbara was born May 31, 1932 in Spearfish, South Dakota and grew up in southwestern Montana. Raised by her parents, Loyd and Catherine Justus, Barbara was the second of seven children.
Barbara was valedictorian of her graduating high school class in Bozeman, MT, and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Montana State University. She went on further to attend and graduate from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, where she met her husband Lindsay Tobey. When they married, she became an instant mother to his toddler son Stephen, and they went on to have two more children, Anna and Nathan, raising their family in Indianapolis, IN while serving as a couple in ministry with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Barbara later began her nursing career in the area.
Barbara loved Jesus, nature, and science, enjoyed travel, was a dedicated recycling enthusiast and enjoyed serving others. She was an adventurous and independent spirit, always wanting to learn. A lifelong nurse serving in many capacities from school nurse, to hospital nurse, to camp nurse, to medical mission nurse, to private duty nurse and more – Barbara also cared for both her husband Lindsay and her father Loyd during their terminal illnesses. Barbara had been on a 12 year journey with her own with Alzheimer’s disease.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Loyd Justus and her husband, Lindsay Tobey. She is survived by a large family including son Stephen Tobey and wife Sandi, daughter Anna Whiteman and husband Doug, and son Nathan Tobey and wife Ellen, Grandchildren: Joshua, Mark, Grant, Jacquelin, Caitlin, and Justine, and fourteen great-grandchildren, with more on the way. She also leaves behind her siblings, brother Lane Justus and wife Bea, sister Jacqueline Wonner and husband Richard, sister Sandra Eggert and husband Keith, sister Janet Rockom and husband John, sister Melinda Anderson, and sister Cathy Sue Newins and husband Kevin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
