What a long, beautiful life she had…
Barbara J Carver was born at home in Indianapolis on June 6,1931 to William and Florence Thompson and her big brother Billy. Growing up in Indianapolis. She attended school #67 and graduated from Shortridge High School.
She spent many visits to Big Stone Gap, Virginia where she had cousins that were like brothers and sisters.
She met her future husband, Robert Carver, at age 16 at the American Legion Post in Fountain Square. They were married 4 years later at the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. They soon began welcoming children into their lives which was her greatest joy.
They began raising their family of 6 children in their new home in Eagledale where she resided for 67 years until her death. She was happy being a stay-at-home mom caring for her brood.
When grandkids started arriving, she was in seventh heaven. She babysat several of them while their parents worked and loved all her grandkids beyond reason.
She was always there when any of us needed her and never complained about helping us. Having 21 grandkids insured she would have great grandchildren and so as not to disappoint her they complied, and she was able to celebrate the birth of her 50th great grandchild this year.
She was beloved by all of her huge family. Christmas Eve’s at Granny’s were always one of the highlights of everyone’s year. She always made sure everyone had a present which was no small feat with that many kids. Her 1-2-3 count down for opening their present was highly anticipated throughout the evening.
When grandkids started getting older, she became the beloved receptionist at her daughter’s hair salon until she was 80 years old.
We had a wonderful 90th birthday celebration last summer where many were able to come and another party with her remaining cousin to celebrate their 90th birthday together.
She was preceded in death by her brother and her husband of 48 years Robert Carver.
She is survived by her remaining cousin, Jack Jones and her children Cynthia Smith (Greg), Thomas Carver (Kim), Robert Carver (Chris), Joanie Malicote (Bob), John Carver (Trish), and Joseph Carver (Karen).
Also, by her Grandchildren, Geoff, David, Sarah, Genesis, Micah, Gracie, Becky, Melissa, Jessie Kate, Morgan, Kari, Alex, Lucas, Austin, David, Ashley, Danielle, Kate, Jake, Jared, Jorden, and Courtney…..and 50 great grandchildren which is way too many to list, though she loved them all.
Momma aka Granny aka GiGi you are so loved and will be forever missed by all, but you will live on through all of our wonderful memories of your undying love!
Until we are together again,
Your Loving Family
