Barbara Jane Horner,
81, of Speedway, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013. She was born on February 21, 1932 in Lafayette, IN to William and Florence (Pepping) Klooz. Barbara attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Grade School and St. Elizabeth High School, graduating in 1949. She graduated from St. Elizabeth Nursing School in 1952. Barbara married the sweetheart of her life, Don Horner, on July 4, 1953.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William Donald Horner, Sr.; children, Becky (Joe) Wesling, Donnie (Maria) Horner, Kim (Jim) Kojetin, Danny (Shelley) Horner, Bernice Stroup, Darlene (Jerry) Cooper; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Klooz; great-grandson, Nicholas Wesling.
In addition to caring for her family, Barbara was also very dedicated to her work, serving as the Director of Nursing at Hooverwood Nursing Home in Indianapolis for 31 years, retiring in 1994. She was also involved with starting the J. Everett Light LPN Program. As a charter member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, she also found time to volunteer with Catholic Social Services and enjoyed helping with the Catholic Christmas Store. She loved to go camping with her family, especially to Lake Michigan, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 1pm at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the services, also at the church. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway.
