Barbara J. Mcgrevy

September 26, 1927 — May 27, 2018

Indianapolis, IN

Barbara Jean McGrevy, 90 years young, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana, where in her last week she was surrounded by family and friends.
For many years she was a stay-at-home Mom. She then worked for and retired from the Wayne Township Schools. She worked at Chapelwood Elementary as a cook and cashier in the school cafeteria.
She loved all things Mickey Mouse and loved spending summer family vacations at Madeira Beach, Florida. Barbara also had a love for her country, and was seen being patriotic every chance she could. For many, many years she would send birthday cards to relatives and friends, and would also call them and kazoo ‘Happy Birthday’ to them. Before it was a ‘thing’, she had a list of people she’d call on ‘Talk like a Pirate’ day — because of this she became known as ‘The Pirate’. She was the best chocolate chip cookie baker around, and made the best homemade potato soup and homemade vegetable soup ever! She was the best Mom a kid could ever hope for. She loved life and always had the best, most positive outlook. She was always kind, and never spoke a harsh word about anyone.

She was survived by her son, Bruce (Jodi Hillis) McGrevy; daughter, Tammy Mitchell; former son-in-law, Dallas Mitchell; grandchildren: Brendan (Lyndsey) McGrevy, Stephanie (Jeff Mackin) Mitchell, Devin (Latoya) McGrevy, Krista (Jacob) Seller, Lizzy (Tom Shriver) McGrevy; great grandchildren: Bryce, Gabriel, Bernard, and one on the way -Silas; brother, Don (Margaret) Spilbeler and former daughter-in-law Leslie (McGrevy) Golub.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Alice Spilbeler; husband Paul McGrevy; sons: Tim and Terry McGrevy; and sisters: Evie Loesch and Gwen Bailey.

Visitation is at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park North on Sunday, June 3rd from 2 to 5pm. Her funeral is Monday, June 4th at 2pm at the same location.
