Barbara J. Hirschauer

Barbara Hirschauer, 99, has passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on September 22nd, 2025. Barbara was born in Indianapolis to parents Alex Jenkins and Adeline Jenkins (Many) on August 19th, 1926.

The definition of a "tough cookie", Barbara was known to have a hard shell on the outside, but was as sweet as could be on the inside. As a homemaker, Barbara was devoted to her family, especially to her Late husband Robert "Bob", and her beloved daughter Alexis.

Coming together as a family was what brought her the most joy. Every holiday was celebrated with lavish decorations, great music, and excitement. Christmas was her favorite. With the snow falling, carols sung, and plenty of gifts tucked under the tree, she shared her warmth with family and friends year after year. Barbara made sure every Christmas was special, and some of the family's fondest memories were spent enjoying Bob's intricate model village and train. 

Barbara volunteered her time at Community East, helping those in need with selfless grace. 

Later on in life, you could find Barbara sitting on the patio, gazing out at the pond. She passed her time birdwatching, finding amusement in the ducks and geese. Barbara's best friend, Daisy, was always sitting in her lap, and they'd have endless conversations as the cranes and herons went by.

Not only could Barbara find the beauty in everything, she made everything beautiful, too. 

Barbara is survived by her daughter Alexis Mclaughlin; grandchildren Christopher Mclaughlin and Molly Blas; great grandchildren Abigal and Isabel; her faithful canine companion, Daisy; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings Joe Jenkins, Thelma Ryan, and Helen Rhodes.

Visitation for Barbara will be Monday October 6th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 4-8pm. Her funeral will be Tuesday October 7th, at the same location, at 1pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
