Barbara Burbank

November 26, 1924 — June 11, 2015

Barbara M. Burbank 90, died June 11, 2015 at her home. A native of Waukon, Iowa, Barbara earned her nursing degree at The University of Iowa. Later, she worked as a psychiatric nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She moved to Illinois and then to Indiana when John Burbank swept her off her feet and they were married in 1948. Barbara provided the perfect complement to John's work as a Presbyterian minister. After John's death in 1991, she continued to be active at Fairview Presbyterian Church, and served in a number of roles. She especially enjoyed working the jewelry department for the annual rummage sale, cutting pies for the fish fry, her Sunday school class and Bible study group. Barbara took up oil painting in the 1960's and continued turning out masterpieces much appreciated by her family and fans. She was an exhibiting member of the Hamilton County Artists' Association. Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Lloyd (Bill) of Chicago, IL, and Rebecca Zaist (Stan) of Jackson, WY, and two grandchildren, Tanya Zaist and Kiki Zaist. Visitation will be Thursday, June 18, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Broad-Ripple, with services on Friday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 N. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
