Barbara A. Burford

Barbara A. Burford, 80 of Indianapolis passed away on February 12, 2015. She had been suffering from complications of a seizure disorder and dementia for several years. She is survived by her husband, Gerard and their six children, Linda, Patty, Dave, Karen, Steve and Janet. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is the oldest of eleven children and will sadly be missed by her remaining brothers and sisters. Barb graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in June of 1955. She and Gerard were married immediately after graduation while he was still on active duty is the USAF. They remained a military family until Gerard retired after 20 years active duty in 1970. Barb worked at different hospitals wherever they were stationed and shortly after Gerard retired she began working full time at Community Hospital East. She was House Supervisor of Nurses on the night shift for several years. She retired from Community in 1998. Barb loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends from church and her family. She was also very involved volunteering with OASIS, (Older Adult Services & Information Services) for many years. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Monday, February 16, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219. Entombment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
