Ausbie "Freddie" Lenoir, 79, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 in Indianapolis, Ind., He was born May 29, 1933 in West Point, Miss., to the late Emmett Sr., and Jennie Mae (Warren) Lenoir. There, he attended public schools and graduated with a high school diploma.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he migrated to Indianapolis in the 1950s, where he became a licensed barber, and then, a certified cardiopulmonary technician, and later a supervisor for the Veterans Administration Hospital system, both in Indianapolis and Danville, Ill. He retired after 40 years of service. He also believed in the importance of higher education by not only taking courses at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis and teaching health classes at University of Illinois-Champaign.
He professed his love for Christ at an early age and continued his walk and education for more than 50 years in the Word by attending University United Methodist Church. There, he participated in the Tuesday Night Bible, Wednesday New Testament Theology, and the Searchers Sunday School classes. But he took his lessons of the Word into the world by helping others, as evidenced by his work with United Methodist Men and Finance Committee. He believed in the importance family and friends, showing his love through words of encouragement, wisdom, and knowledge.
Freddie loved to garden, rehab houses, watch baseball and football, and keep abreast of current events and politics. He always loved to "go on to Capitol Hill" in Washington, D.C., via C-SPAN to watch key proceedings. You could count on him to provide key facts on legislation as well as the politicians at the forefront of issues. For this, he will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emmett Jr.; Sterling Sr., and Sylvester Sr.; and his sister, Louise Fedrick.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Etta Marie; daughter, Lisa D. Lenoir; a sister, Elsie Mae Parker of Jackson, Miss., as well as a host of nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
