Arthur “Art” Carl Kern Jr., age 82, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on November 6, 2025. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Hayward, Wisconsin, Art lived life on his own terms, with humor, love for his family, and a healthy dose of stubbornness. He spent 37 years with Ford Motor Company, where he took pride in being part of a hardworking team and was a long-time member of the Ford Golf League. Golf wasn’t just a hobby; it was one of his greatest joys, especially when playing alongside his son or his Ford buddies.
Art had a lifelong love of the outdoors and could often be found hunting — something that brought him peace, patience, and plenty of good stories to tell afterward. He had a gift for storytelling that would often leave you laughing.
He instilled a love of the outdoors in his children and even tried to share his love of hunting with his daughter— though that adventure ended with her earning a black eye and a story that’s still told to this day.
To his grandkids, he was simply “Papa.” He loved nothing more than spending time with them — playing endless games of checkers, coloring at the kitchen table, watching their bike rides up and down the street, and sneaking them snacks when Grandma wasn’t looking. His love for them was as big as his personality.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Stella Kern. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia; his daughter Marie; his son James, and James’ wife Leslie; and two grandchildren, Colton and Hollis. He also leaves behind his brother Jerry, sister Janis, and their families.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering love for family, golf, hunting, and football. Go Colts!
