Arthur Eugene 'Gene' Gilliatt

February 28, 1923 — July 5, 2013

Arthur "Gene" Eugene Gilliatt 90, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away on July 5, 2013 at Garden Plaza Westside, Indianapolis. Gene is survived by his children Steven Gilliatt, Connie Gilliatt, Doug Gilliatt, Cindy Padgett, Pam Tullis, and 13 grandchildren. Gene was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. Gene was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Murat Shriners, Indianapolis. Gene's outdoors love included hunting quail and pheasant, fishing for bass, croppy, bluegill and anything else that would jump on his lure, camping in Brown County off Blue Gill Ridge and golf, which included a longtime membership at the Brickyard Crossing (Speedway) Golf course and more trophies in the basement than one can count. His other love was meeting new people and quickly becoming their friends. Just ask any butcher at Marsh, waitress at Grind Stone Charley's or server at the MCL Cafeteria and they will remember him not as a customer but as a friend and a gentleman. Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years Shirley Gilliatt, his father Claude Gilliatt and mother Mary Gilliatt. The Gilliatt family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Garden Plaza Westside in Indianapolis and ManorCare in Avon for their loving care and support. You are truly angels for families in need. A private family service and burial will be held in Washington, Indiana where Gene will lay to rest with his wife, father, mother and numerous family members. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
