Obituary

Anne Dumas O’Connor, 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 6, 2026. She was born on November 15, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents, William and Louise (Dumas) O’Connor.

Born with a generous spirit and a lifelong dedication to helping others, Anne built a life defined by compassion, service, and unwavering devotion to the people she cherished.

Anne was a proud graduate of St. Vincent’s where she began, what would become a remarkable and deeply impactful career in healthcare. Over the years she served in a wide range of nursing roles, including positions at St. Vincent's, The VA, Methodist Hospital, and Meridian Medical Group. She also devoted more than two decades to a neurology practice, earning the respect of colleagues, patients, and families alike for her expertise, kindness, and steady presence. Anne’s passion for education led her to teach nursing in public high schools, where she inspired countless young people to pursue careers in healthcare.

Family and friends were the center of Anne’s world. She loved gathering with the people closest to her - sharing meals, celebrating milestones, and creating memories filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She maintained a wide and loyal circle of friends, each drawn to her big heart, vibrant personality, and genuine care for others. Those who knew Anne will remember her as thoughtful, sharp, compassionate, and giving - a woman who touched lives wherever she went and whose impact will continue to be felt for generations.

Anne lived with passion and embraced life fully. A devoted Indianapolis Colts fan, she rarely missed a game and cheered for her team through every season with unwavering loyalty. She also stayed remarkably current with technology, impressing family and friends by mastering video calls, texting, and social media well into her eighties. Whether connecting with loved ones across the miles or debating the Colts' latest play, Anne approached everything with enthusiasm and joy.

Anne is survived by her nieces, Mary Anne (John) Hettenhaus, Elizabeth (Dwayne) Stephens, Ellen (JT) Greene-Tom; great-nieces to Katie (Arthur) Hettenhaus, Meghan Hettenhaus; brother-in-law, Gerry Greene. She also leaves behind many cousins from the O’Connor and Dumas families.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kathleen (O’Connor) Greene.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 AM on Monday, January 26, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Rd, Carmel, IN 46033, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. A private burial for immediate family will follow.
