Anne Seymour Olmsted McClure
92, formerly of Winnetka, IL, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Indianapolis.
She was born January 9, 1920 to Seymour Hatch Olmsted and Frances Michael Olmsted. Anne earned a bachelor of philosophy degree from the University of Vermont in 1942 and then served as a Lieutenant (jg) in the US Navy WAVES in WWII. She was a delightful lady who enjoyed gardening, tennis, and the arts.
Survivors include sons; Donald McClure Jr., Malcolm (Cathy) McClure, Douglas (Joni) McClure, and Robert (Erin) McClure, 5 grandchildren; Chris (Jamie) McClure, Anne (Ted) Walk, Jonathan McClure, Ryan McClure, and Rebecca McClure, and 2 great grandchildren. Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Dr. Donald W. McClure, and by her brother, Michael Olmsted.

Anne Seymour Olmsted was born on January 9,1920 to Seymour Hatch Olmsted and Frances Michael Olmsted in Winnetka, IL. She grew up in Winnetka spending her summers with her cousins at the Olmsted camp in Sardinia, NY and visiting her grandparents who were prominent members of Buffalo, NY society.
Following her high school graduation from New Trier, Anne attended the University of Vermont where she achieved a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in 1942. After college, Anne enlisted in the Navy to join in the WWII war effort. Achieving the rank of Lieutenant in the WAVES, Anne served as a radio, telephone and cable censor in the Office of Censorship in San Francisco. She also did public relations work in the District Public Housing office in San Francisco and personnel work at the WAVE separation center at Great Lakes. Anne's story about her WWII service has been chronicled in the US Library of Congress Veteran's History Project.
After she left the Navy, Anne worked at Coronet Instructional Films as a laboratory technician and administrative assistant doing 16 mm film production and editing. In addition to production work , she also kept production records and logs, did make-up, worked on props and the sets and even had her film debut as an "extra" acting in front of the camera.
On May 27, 1950, Anne married Dr. Donald W. McClure, a fellow WWII Navy veteran and a prominent physician. They settled in their hometown of Winnetka, and raised four sons. Don had a private practice for 28 years, was on staff at Evanston Hospital, and the VA hospital, and taught at the Northwestern University medical school.
Anne was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing tennis, and loved the arts. She was active in community work in Winnetka. Anne loved history, and she and her husband enjoyed travelling and spending time at their Victorian farmhouse in Wisconsin.
After retirement, the McClures moved to Indianapolis, IN to be near son Malcolm and his family. She kept in close contact with her loving family and, remarkably, with friends from her childhood, high school, college and Navy days until they were separated by death.
Anne Olmsted McClure passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. She was 92 years old.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald, her parents, Seymour and Frances Olmsted, and by her brother, Michael Olmsted.
Survivors include her four sons: Donald Jr., Malcolm (Cathy) McClure, Douglas (Joni) McClure, Robert (Erin) McClure, five grandchildren: Chris (Jamie) McClure, Anne (Ted) Walk, Jonathan McClure, Ryan McClure and Rebecca McClure and two great grandchildren.
She was a delightful lady we all loved dearly, and she will be deeply missed.
