Anne Hair

Feb 9, 1942 — Jul 29, 2026

Indianapolis, IN

Anne Hair of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 84. She was born in Gary, IN, on February 9, 1942, to parents, John and Mary (Fitzgerald) Brink.

Anne received her Masters in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, and had been a lifelong educator and education mentor and champion for over 40 years. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was involved with many extracurricular groups there.

For the past 30 years, she had been heavily involved in the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township as an educator, science department chair person, and member of countless boards and committees, including being a 28 year member of the Washington Township Schools Foundation Board beginning in 1998. The foundation executive Director, Emily Kaiser stated, “Anne was a cornerstone of our organization, and spent 28 years demonstrating what it truly means to serve ; she felt genuine delight in impacting education in Washington Township. She was a true volunteer among volunteers... always the first to arrive, the last to leave, and, I don't believe, ever missed a single grants cycle in nearly three decades. As a longtime educator, former Science Department Chair she brought an irreplaceable teacher’s perspective to our organization. To say her presence will be profoundly missed is an understatement”. Tom Hakim, Northview Middle School principal where Anne taught science and was science department chair for more than a decade, stated: “Anne was dear to so many of us and I know that this is extremely difficult news to receive, especially at the start of a school year. We will be sure to celebrate Anne's legacy and positive impact as a Northview Falcon and a proud member of the Washington Township Community as we embark on this upcoming school year”. She also was a cofounder of the beloved decades long summer science program in the district called Learning Under the Sun, which is still occurring every summer to this day.

Post retirement she spent time with her three grandchildren, Violet, Jack, and Lilah, who brought her tremendous joy, and began volunteering weekly at the Children’s Museum in their science STEM lab and other areas of the museum. Anne was an avid tennis player throughout her life and loved and respected everything nature from a blade of grass to a beautiful bird to the rays of the sun. She believed everyone had value and worth in this world, and even in her 80s had former students stopping her in the grocery store asking her if she remembered them when she was their science teacher.

She and her daughter Katy were very close and Anne spent countless hours watching Katy race triathlons as an adult and attending swim meets as Katy grew up swimming at the Riviera Club starting at age 6, where Anne taught swim lessons. Anne was a great supporter and influencer of Katy’s career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker where Katy has been supporting others in different capacities for 21 years.

Anne was a devout Catholic her entire life and imparted that onto her family, along with spending recent months volunteering at Christ the King Church.

Anne was dedicated to her immediate and extended family, including her own siblings, their spouses, and her nieces and nephew. Anne married Jack Hair and he preceded her in passing in 1991. She is survived by daughter, Katy (Hair)Sahm and son-in-law Scott Sahm; grandchildren, Violet, Lilah and Jack Sahm; and sibling(s) John C. Brink and Harriett Majors.
