Anne Goodrich a/k/a Francis (Nancy) Poniatowski, age 93, of Indianapolis, passed away September 7, 2015. She was born on October 10, 1921, in Decatur, Indiana to Pierre and Dorothy (Dugan) Goodrich. Anne was the granddaughter of the former Governor of Indiana (1917-21), the Hon. James Goodrich. Anne was an only child, preceded in death by her parents. Anne was proud of her heritage. Anne had reported that her family's roots traced back to England, and she had visited the Goodrich Castle, in Herefordshire, England which Anne believed at one time to be owned by her ancestors. Her father, Pierre Goodrich, was the founder of the Liberty Fund. Her father and grandfather were early 20th Century industrialists. Anne went to Shortridge High School in Indianapolis but graduated from Tudor Hall School in 1939, where she received high honors in English and History. She attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY for two years. Anne later traveled extensively worldwide, and she enrolled at Oxford and the Sorbonne. In May 1952, Anne married Polish prince Edmond Poniatowski at the Vincent Astor Estate in Rhinebeck, New York. They lived in Paris for several years. She was divorced from Edmond. Anne had no children.
There will be a calling at 5:00, with a memorial service at 5:30, on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Flanner and Buchanan, Broad Ripple Mortuary. Friends and family will be invited to share remembrances of Anne at that time. Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery, in Winchester, Indiana, at a later date.
