Anne Fisher Manka

April 25, 1936 — January 11, 2012

Anne Fisher Manka, 75, of Indianapolis, entered into eternal life, January 11, 2012. Anne was born April 25, 1936 in Raleigh, NC daughter of Melvin and Margaret McGehee. Anne was a graduate of Butler University having both a BA and MS in Education. She began her teaching career with the Lawrence Township Schools later in life after raising her children. She retired in 1994 after 23 years having primarily taught Honors English classes. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and was involved weekly with Westminster Neighborhood Food Pantry. Anne was a consummate learner, her list of books to read and pursuit of knowledge was a lifelong passion. She was a tireless patron of the arts supporting the Indianapolis Art Museum, Women Without Walls, her book Club and appearing in several Mud Creek Players productions including, Charlie, Steel Magnolias and Once Upon A Mattress. She traveled with Elder Hostel to many foreign countries participating in classes and touring historical sites. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and in 1964 by her 1st husband, James Walter "Jimmy" Fisher. Anne is survived by her husband, John Manka, children, Beth, Chris (Donna) and Steve (Tamara); her grandchildren, Morgan, Benjamin, Holly, Madeline, Hanna and Sterling; her brother Peter and sister Jane. Funeral services will be held 4:00pm, Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 8170 Hauge Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46256. Visitation will be from 2:30 until the service time on Sunday at the church. Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East will be in charge of arrangements. Burial will be held at a later date in Washington Park East Cemetery.
