Indianapolis

Annabel (Ann) Mathioudakis, Age 97

Ann was born in 1929 to Walter and Cleopatra (Arnett) Pattison in Gas City, Indiana and died on August 28, 2026. She grew up in Fairmount, Indiana, and graduated from Fairmount High School in 1949. She attended school with and was in plays with James Dean, including Pride & Prejudice. She attended Indiana State Teachers College (now Ball State) and was an elementary school teacher.

Ann married Robert (Bob) Mathioudakis in 1950 and they were married for over 70 years until his death. Bob was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was very active in the American Legion and American Legion Post 497 is now named after him in tribute. Ann is survived by four children: Beth, Miki, Mike (JoLee) and Nick (Marilyn) Mathioudakis; eight grandchildren: Michael (Mikayla) Mathioudakis, Lexi (Collin) Russell, Rob (Katie) Mathioudakis, Jonathan Mathioudakis, Sophia Mathioudakis, Timothy (Ana) Mathioudakis, Kristina Mathioudakis and Joe Mathioudakis; and five great grandchildren: Juniper, Milo, August, Eloise and Rosemary. Ann was called YiaYia by her grandchildren and almost everyone in their extended families. She was known for hosting social events for family, her sorority and friends. She enjoyed trips to Greece and Scotland and could always be seen at her children’s and grandchildren’s events.

She was an active member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority and lived in High Knoll Estates for 36 years. Ann volunteered with countless organizations, particularly those affiliated with her church and Washington Township schools, community theater and scouting. She also served as a substitute teacher at Crooked Creek, Westlane and North Central High School in Washington Township.

Ann enjoyed painting and her family and many friends will treasure her artwork. She took great pride in her appearance and very few people ever saw her in the same outfit more than once. Many local theater wardrobe departments received thousands of outfits from her collection.

Until her rapid decline, Ann defied Father Time’s march and enjoyed when people guessed her age as multiple decades younger than her chronological age. She participated in a talent show at 84 by performing her high school baton twirling routine in the same outfit she wore nearly 70 years earlier.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care she received at Sunrise on Old Meridian Street in Carmel and Compassus Hospice Care. Memorial contributions may be made to Robert Mathioudakis Legion Post 497, 3011 Guion Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46222.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00. Flanner Buchanan, Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228.
