Anna Pizzi

November 24, 1924 — February 26, 2012

Anna Tebaide Pizzi passed away quietly and peacefully from natural causes on Sunday February 26th at 2 o'clock in the morning. She was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy on November 24th, 1924 and moved to the United States in 1968. As a young woman, Anna worked as a seamstress for the family of Gianni Versace before meeting the love of her life, Giuseppe (Joe) Pizzi. The two fell in love and were wed, later moving to La Spezia in Northern Italy where they raised daughter Rosalba and son Gino. During that time, Joe continued to work as a metal craftsman in his family's owned and operated shop. Eventually, Joe came to Canada for the World Fair, and he decided to move his family to the "Land of Opportunity" and open his own craft in Indianapolis, IN. In 1979, the family opened Ambrosia Italian Restaurant. "Mamma Pizzi", as she was known, became the face of Ambrosia and an icon in Broad Ripple. Mamma worked at Ambrosia every single day until her beloved Joe passed away in December of 2006. Anna is survived by son Gino, and daughter Rosalba and spouse Paolo; Kathee Pizzi; grandchildren Manuela and Roberto Adsuar-Pizzi; Anna and Dan Cage; and Francesca Pizzi; and great-granddaughters Isabela and Emilia Adsuar-Pizzi. She is also survived by various family members who still live in Italy. She was preceded in death by husband, Joe Pizzi and daughter-in-law, Laura Pizzi. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 3 at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple at 1305 Broad Ripple Ave. Friends and family are invited to gather from 11:00 am until the time of the service. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
