Anna Jean Hughes
91, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on April 6, 2013. She was a loving wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was born to the late James and Julia (Spalding) O'Brian. She was born in the town of Loogootee, Indiana, grew up on the south side of Indianapolis, graduated from St. John Academy in Indianapolis, and married Edward Robert Hughes in 1940. Anna was the epitome of the word "Homemaker". Family and home came first, raising three children who always knew she loved them and could depend on her support.
Anna was a member of St. Michaels Parish for 60 years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking and volunteering at St. Vincent's Hospital Gift Shop. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Hughes; Brothers, Bob and Earl O'Brian; sisters, Virginia Hammel, Helen Cucci, and Mary Agnes Wagner. She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years…Edward R. Hughes; sons, Bob Hughes (Pati) of Carmel, Indiana, and Jim Hughes (Pat) of Federal Way, Washington; brother, William J. O'Brian; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Anna will be missed, but will live on in our hearts forever. Family and friends may call Wednesday April 10, 2013 from 10:00am-11:00am at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive Indianapolis, Indiana 46228. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana 50 East 91st Street Indianapolis, IN 46240.
