Ann Miller Dean

January 11, 1928 — August 9, 2021

Indianapolis, Indiana

Ann Miller Dean passed away peacefully in Indianapolis at Hoosier Village at the young age of 93 on August 9, 2021. She was born on January 11, 1928 in Mamaroneck, New York to Stanley Hawthorne Miller and Agnes Lawrence Humphrey. She grew up in Larchmont, New York and graduated from Northfield Mount Herman Boarding school before attending Traphagen School of Fashion in NYC and received a 2-year undergraduate degree.

She worked in fashion design on Fifth Avenue in New York City until she married

the love of her life, Robert G. Dean. She always told everyone that the first time she saw him on the train platform, she said to herself, ”I am going to marry that man!” And we are glad she did! They were married on April 28, 1951 and were inseparable for 68 years until Bob passed away at the notable age of 96. As a young girl she grew up with William F. Buckley (or Billy to Ann) and Edward Albee, author of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, who wanted to make sure Bob was good enough for her before they were married!

She was loved dearly by family and every one of her numerous friends including those across the miles! She is survived by her daughter, MaryEllen (Dean) Fellegy and Peter M. Fellegy; her son, Bruce D. Dean and Cindy Wingo; grandsons, Douglas D. Fellegy and Erin E. Browne; Thomas C. Fellegy and Anne E. Fellegy and great granddaughter; Eleanor Ruth Fellegy; Charles G. Dean; and Maxwell G. Dean.

Ann was a wonderfully talented artist and added those talents to everything she touched including her love for serious quilting, sewing, and crafting. She also belonged to quilting groups at the churches where she and Bob were active members, including, Woodbury United Methodist Church (Woodbury, NY), First Congregational Church of Sheffield, Old Parish Church (Sheffield, MA), and Zionsville United Methodist Church (Zionsville, IN). Ann and Bob were active church members supporting committees for finance and stewardship, and she enjoyed their small group bible studies. They were always dependable voices in their choirs and looked forward to the music that lifted them up each week and to their special friendships wherever they were singing. They both knew the choral classics so well that (from time to time) they were caught singing their parts quietly from the audience side of the podium at the Hilbert Circle Theatre or the Palladium in Carmel … a little family “shushing” was always at the ready …

Throughout Ann’s life, she was dedicated to and passionate about documenting the family genealogy (and well before the ability to do international searches on-line) which took them on a number adventures throughout New York, New England, and even Marysville, CA.

A celebration of life gathering is scheduled for Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Zionsville, IN from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 W. Pine Street, Zionsville 46077.
