Anita M. Gentry

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anita M. Gentry, 74, on August 5, 2026. Anita was born February 19, 1952 to parents Jack Gentry Sr. and Ruth Gentry in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Anita was a dedicated woman to both her career and her family. She worked for State Farm for over 40 years as an Office Manager in both Indiana and Illinois before retiring. Alongside that, she was a loving, caring mother to her sons, Tom and Steve.

Certain to enjoy life, Anita is fondly remembered for her overwhelming enthusiasm for sports. She loved watching her sons play when they were younger, a tradition that had since passed to her grandchildren. Anita could always be found cheering on her favorite teams, including the Cincinnati Reds and the Indianapolis Colts. When it was time for a bit of speed, she enjoyed watching the Indy 500 and Nascar. Of course, Anita knew how to slow things down too, as her favorite place to be was on Daytona Beach catching rays with her sisters.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents Jack Gentry Sr. and Ruth Gentry; her siblings Jack Gentry Jr. and Sandy Ryan; and her grandson Bradley Vangundy.

Anita is survived by her sons, Thomas (Melanie Purkey) Reuss and Steven (Tamara) Reuss; grandchildren Tanner Reuss and Samantha (Craig) Linn and soon-to-be grandchildren Hunter, Caitlin, and Lauren Purkey; siblings Linda Vuotto, Rena Irving, and Wanda Boggs.

A Memorial Gathering will be held in Anita’s honor on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Flanner Buchanan – Geist (7855 Cork Road, Indianapolis, IN 46236) from 2-4pm.
