Andrew Klatte

The Reverend Andrew Pendleton Klatte, 56, passed away on March 15, 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Drew was born in on May 12, 1957 in Marion, Indiana. He grew up in Gas City, Indiana and graduated from Mississinewa High School and went onto obtain a degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina. Drew worked of the State of Indiana as Assistant Deputy Director in the Office of Addiction and Emergency Services of the Division of Mental Health. Drew was ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in 2003. Drew dedicated his life to the betterment of the disadvantaged people of the world and took an active part in disaster response operations in America and overseas. Inspired by a friend, Reverend Marc Nikkel of Scotland, Drew became a tireless advocate of the people of South Sudan. Traveling to Sudan initially with Rev. Nikkel, Drew then led multiple trips to Sudan introducing many in the Episcopal Church to the needs of the faithful Sudanese. In 2000, Drew participated in the peace talks between the warring factions in Sudan. Drew led disaster mental health response teams to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina and after the earthquake to Haiti. He continued his work with the clergy in Haiti through the mission work of Credo, Episcopal Church Pension Group. He led mental health disaster response team following numerous natural disasters in the State of Indiana. Drew is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Peggy Woodhall; his stepmother, Audrey Brown Klatte of Tryon, NC; his son, Josh; and, his brothers, Neill of Indianapolis, Stuart of Leesburg, FL, and David of Tryon, NC. He will be remembered by his many friends and colleagues in the United States and across the world from South Sudan, Brazil, Ecuador, and Haiti and by the many people he lifted up from crisis with his faith and his infectious laugh. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 2pm at St.Paul's Episcopal Church, 6050 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. The Right Reverend Catherine Waynick, Bishop of Indianapolis, will officiate. Burial will be in Macon, GA.
