Dr. An Van Nguyen went home to our Dear Lord Jesus Christ on April 8, 2022 after a long and heroic battle against lymphoma. He was born on March 10, 1953 in Vietnam. He and his family immigrated in 1975 to the United States and settled in Greensburg, Indiana. He helped his family members settle into their new life before continuing his education. He earned an undergraduate degree at Indiana University and then obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985. His specialty in pathology gained him positions in Hospitals in Grand Rapids and Royal Oak, Michigan. Afterwards, he then went on to work at the University of Chicago.
An valued education and often stressed the importance of a good education to his nieces and nephews. They took that advice to heart and all are college graduates. He utilized his talents and kindness for those around him especially his parents whom he cared for until they passed away. He was very close to his sister Kim. Although not knowing all the circumstances around his sister, he may have sensed that she was no longer around to take care of him in the last few days of his life. We believe that he followed his older sister Kim to their heavenly home.
An is survived by two sisters Bac and Thiec, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents An Van Nguyen and Ri Thi Hoang; his brother and his wife Nang Van Nguyen and Gioc Thi Phan; and sister Kim Thanh Nguyen; and two nieces Thanh Tam Nguyen and Yen Hai Nguyen.
