Alma Louise Neal peacefully earned her angel wings March 1, 2024 at the age of 84. She was born July 8, 1939 in Indianapolis, to the late Charles L. (Charlie) and Edna L. Carson
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Curtis Lee Neal II, her brother Frances Hayse and daughter, Katherine L. Neal.
She is survived by her 3 children: Curtis L. Neal III (Regina), Charles L Neal (Jill), and Rebecca A Fuller (Brian), her grandchildren: Paice, Chris, Sara, Avery, Aimee, Jesse, Marcus, and 12 great grandchildren, sisters, Betty Holton and Elsie Hurt, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her entire life she was such an amazing unique woman. She grew up on the South side of Indianapolis in a one room home with no indoor plumbing and very little material things, and still enjoyed her days stomping the grounds of Beech Grove and Garfield Park. She spent many days walking to visit Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins living within walking distance to her home. She enjoyed playing in the creek at the end of her street until the street lights came on. During these years she met the love of her life, Curtis L. Neal II and married at a young age.
After marriage she worked in many local restaurants then moved into working hotel restaurants for nearly 40 years. They began having children and finally bought their first home on the west side of Indianapolis. During this time they enjoyed playing horseshoes in the backyard and entertaining the family just staying home. She always attended every school, cub scouts, brownies, band, swimming team, spelling bee events all while going to the neighborhood pool after work and enjoyed being with the children and gossiping with all the women, and still had a full course meal on the table every day at 5:00 p.m. They enjoyed the yearly family vacation whether 20 miles away or 1200 miles away in their later years as the children became older. They bought their first boat and enjoyed fishing, going to the lake every Sunday with their children (along with many neighborhood friends who wanted to come along for fun in the sun); horse racing events and extensive vacations became a habit for them. Christmas was the big event of the year for them, they shopped until they dropped, and bought just the perfect presents for everyone (especially the grandchildren). She cooked every bit of food imaginable and invited family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Dad decorated like National Lampoon and enjoyed it well into the night or early the next morning. She resided in this home and cared for Curt and shortly after his passing she decided she wanted to go back to work at Pike Metropolitan Schools in the cafeteria and retired in 2003 after 10 years
After a few years she decided to move and bought a home in Avon because she always wanted a pool and of course the extra room she had in the house for shopping and going to garage sales. She never knew a sale she didn’t have to shop. She always took care of all the grandkids making sure they had a dollar for ice cream. She was always a caregiver; if she knew someone was under the weather she was right there for them. Right or wrong, the whole world always knew what she was thinking. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, sewing, craft making and needle point. She had the crazy ability to suddenly throw together a 7 course meal in 15 minutes, no matter who was hungry or cook 6 different homemade pies, fudge and cookies in one day. She was and always will be loved and remembered by her family and friends who find comfort that she has been reunited with Curt.
