Alice Rosamary Miller, 85, of Indianapolis passed away on February 26, 2024. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 3, 1939, to her parents, Charles and Dorothy Dawson.
Alice is survived by her loving children, Randy Miller, Donnita Smith and Darla Miller; her grandchildren, Andrea Smith, Kara Smith, and Matthew Miller (Christine); her great grand children, Joplin Miller and Jett Miller.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Donald Miller.
Alice graduated from Ben Davis High School. She married Donald Miller on August 2, 1957. While working and raising her young family she became a den mother for her son’s Cub Scout troop. She studied for her estate license and later became a real estate broker. She was a long-time member of The American Business Women’s Association.
The family spent their leisure time boating, camping and taking cross county trips. She and her husband were sports enthusiast supporting their favorite teams, Indianapolis Colts and Indianapolis Pacers.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother sharing her love of all of the arts.
Before retiring she completed a Master Gardening Program, often working at the at the Indianapolis Zoo and Newfields Museum of Art gardens. Her love of reading, which she shared with her family, inspired her to become a tutor for first and second graders at Clinton Young Elementary School. After retiring she also joined Oasis for extended learning opportunities, and she traveled extensively with her husband and their friends.
Alice was an avid gardener, both floral and vegetable, and shared her produce, flowers and seeds with everyone that she could. She also was driven to grow and share milk weed plants to do her part to help increase the monarch butterfly population to avoid their extinction.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 4PM-8PM. Additional visitation will be held the following day from 10AM-11AM, with a funeral service beginning at 11AM. All will be held at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. Alice will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
