Alice "Joanne" Escue

Alice “Joanne” Escue, age 88, of Greenfield, passed away on October 8, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 15, 1938, in Washington, IN, to her parents, Albert & Bertha Remmel.

Joanne is survived by her sons, Mike (Jamie) Escue, Gary (Paula) Escue, & Tim (Brenda) Escue; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces & nephews, whom she loved dearly, and her beloved Miss Kitty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 68 years, Jim Escue; her brothers, Donnie Joe “Smitty” Smith and Ronnie Remmel & her sister, Carolyn “Sue” King.

Joanne was retired from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), where she worked as a classroom assistant/aide, spending many of her years at School 49. She enjoyed going to yard sales and, in their younger years, camping and square dancing. Above all, she loved spending quality time with her family and cherished every moment together.

Joanne was a member of Fleming Garden Church, Indianapolis.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026, from 11AM-1PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229. A funeral service will begin at 1PM. Joanne will be laid to rest, at a later date, with her late husband, Jim, in Washington Park East Cemetery.
