ALICIA OLIVER was born May 26th, 1928, to Dora Johnson and Thomas Oliver in Memphis, TN. Her mother later moved her six children to Wynne, AR. There she met Raymond Garrett and fell head over heels at the tender age of 18. The two later became married in 1946, and that union produced 4 children Patsy Garrett, Laverne Garrett, Raymond Garrett Jr, and Sandra Garrett. The two packed up their family and moved to Indianapolis, IN in 1950. Alicia confessed her love for Christ at an early age, joining Union Valley Baptist Church in Wynne, AR, and then later Abyssinian Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN. She was no stranger to hard work. She worked at Methodist Hospital as the lead dietary aide for 17 years and later retired at the age of 65 to become a full-time grandmother. Alica had a heart of GOLD and loved everyone she met. If she had a home, so did you no matter who you were. Her mantra was “Help a man when he is in trouble, help him and never complain.” She honestly believed and lived by this until the day she departed. On June 15, 2021, Alicia took her last breath and went home to be with the Lord. Preceded in death were her parents Dora Llyod and Thomas Oliver, in-laws Sam and Jessie Garrett, husband Raymond Garrett, son Raymond Garrett Jr, sisters Katy Higgins, Jessie Porter, Tommie Robinson, and Betty Wells, and brother Eugene Oliver. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Patsy Garrett, Laverne Garrett, and Sandra Garrett. Nine grandchildren Richard Garrett (Shawnie), Lakeysha Garrett, Jovan Weathers (Sheron), Ian Weathers, Tesha Flynn (Brandon), Latoya Garrett, Yolanda Garrett, Wayne Garrett, and Melissa Garrett. 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
