Alice Ann Shelton Ewbank

Alice Ann Shelton Ewbank died on October 19, 2015. She was the daughter of Kermit Philip and Beatrice ODonnell Shelton, born on January 18, 1944 and a lifetime resident of Indianapolis until Carmel in 2000.

She graduated from Pike High Schoolin 1961, became a sister in Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1962, and received her B.S. in1964 and M.S. in 1967, both from Butler University. Mrs. Ewbank taught fifth grade for two years at Zionsville Elementary and six years at Pike Lincoln Middle School, Englishand Social Studies. She then retiredfrom teaching to be a mother and homemaker. She was a strong advocate for Special Needs children for almost fifty years. In 1980 she started her own freelance interior design business, Ewbank Interiors. She continued to work as an interior designer until 2010. She participated as designer in the 1985 Decorator Show House.

Memberships included First Baptist Church of Indianapolis for 62 years where she was a Deaconess, Vice Chair of the Womens Society, President of her Circle, church choir member, and Sunday School teacher; Delta Kappa Gamma teaching honorary; Riley-Meridian Kiwanis Club; Meridian Hills Country Club; Columbia Club; The Benjamin Harrison Home;Indiana Historical Society; Indiana Landmarks; Arc of Indiana; and the Laurelwood Bible Study Group.

She is survived by her son, William Curtis (Curt) Ewbank II, her daughter, Ann (Annie) Shelton Ewbank, M.D., her grandson, Luke Philip Ewbank, and her husband of 47 years, Thomas P. (Tom) Ewbank. She is also survived by five first cousins: Robert Forster, Dorothy(Dottie) Wiman, David Swickard, Jean Bates, and Nancy Swickard.

Private Burial. A Memorial Service is at First Baptist Church on Saturday, October 24, at 11 AM., with calling at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the church, 8600 N. College Ave., 46240; Arc of Indiana, 107N. Pennsylvania St., 46204, or the Kiwanis Foundation of Indianapolis, 320 N.Meridian St., 46204. The family wishes to express gratitude to Betty Lowe, Sandy Herman, and the staff at Sunrise on Old Meridian for their excellent care. Flanner and Buchanan Carmel is handling the arrangements.
