Alfred P. Quinton

January 4, 1937 — April 15, 2025

Alfred Peter Quinton, PhD, age 88, beloved family man and educator, passed away April 15th, 2025, in Carmel, Indiana.

Al, as he was known, was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on January 4th, 1937, to the late James and Gertrude Quinton (nee Thompson). A 1954 graduate of St Mary of the Assumption High School, Elizabeth, NJ, he was employed for 25 years as a buyer in the men's wear business by such large companies as Macy's and Fruit of The Loom, traveling all over the world, primarily in Asia.

Then, already well into his 40's, Al decided to pursue a lifelong goal of acquiring a higher education, and within ten years he had earned an undergraduate degree from Thomas Edison College, a Master of Business Administration from NYIT, and a Doctorate in Professional Studies from Pace University in New York- all with honors and distinction, and while still working. Coinciding with these academic achievements was a career change, and Al, now Dr Al, spent the last twenty-odd years of his professional life teaching at the college level, retiring from The College of New Jersey in 2007.

He was an active Rotarian, and as an avid gun collector he became a competition pistol shooter, and NRA Certified Firearms Instructor.

His varied interests included military history and Chinese culture, which he had become acquainted with during his dozens of business trips to the Far East, and through diligent practice and study was able to speak conversational Cantonese.

Al and his wife Carole loved their dogs, and taking cruises all over the Caribbean, the Atlantic, and Alaska.

He is predeceased in death by his devoted wife of 37 years, the aforementioned Carole Quinton (nee Slayton), sister Gail Ware, his children Bill (Debbie) Quinton, Suzanne (John, deceased) McNulty, Carolyn (John) Oesmann, and Jeannette Quinton, his stepsons Walter (Stephanie) Smith, and Erich (Virginia) Smith, as well as twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date, to be announced.
