Alfred T. Calla, of Indianapolis, died on March 24, 2024. He was born on October 30, 1940, in Naga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines, to the late Marcelo and Francisca Calla. He was the oldest of nine.

He attended Naga City High School and Far Eastern University Institute of Business and Finance with a degree in accounting.

Fred and his wife Dely married on February 14, 1969 and emigrated to the United States in 1972. In Indianapolis, Fred worked as a bookkeeper at Moses Beauty Supply and at Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 10 years. He was an accountant at Key Bank and worked in the research department at JP Morgan Chase until he retired in 2005.

He loved to go fishing and bowling, during which he earned a number of trophies. He enjoyed traveling around the world, especially going on a number of cruises. Fred loved to garden, taking special care of the garden and landscaping in both Indianapolis and Cocoa Beach homes. He was often seen taking numerous photos and videos of family travels and their gardens’ bounty throughout the years. Fred and Dely also regularly met with a close-knit circle of retired Filipinos for long, laughter-filled lunches at Indianapolis restaurants.

He is “famous” for his Tito Fred’s salsa, laden with habaneros, and for baking pandesal. He loved to relax with his loved ones while watching action and comedy movies, Indiana Pacers games and Indianapolis Colts games.

Fred is survived by his wife, Delicia; son, Delmer; daughters Fredelyn Calla and Melody Reed (Andrew). He is also survived by 3 remaining siblings and many cousins, nephews, and nieces in the Philippines. He is a beloved lolo, uncle, tito, brother, father, cousin, community member who attended Glendale Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years and longtime friend to so many.
