The family of Alfonso M. Perez Jr., age 83, of Beech Grove, are heartbroken to announce his passing on May 18, 2026.
Al was born on April 4, 1943, in Los Angeles, California where he grew up and later moved to Beech Grove, IN, where he spent the rest of his days.
Al dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the Beech Grove Public Works Department, a career he took great pride in. After retirement, Al enjoyed volunteering at The Refuge Food Pantry in Greenwood, IN. In his 60s, he achieved a remarkable personal milestone by earning his black belt in martial arts, a testament to his discipline, strength, and determination.
On November 8, 1980, Al married the love of his life, Pyong “Cho” Perez, with whom he shared a devoted and joyful marriage. He was a God-fearing man and longtime member of Gray Road Baptist Church, where his faith was the center of his life.
Al loved his family deeply and wholeheartedly. He will be remembered for his infamous stories and infectious laugh, and for the way he made people feel loved, like family. He didn’t know a stranger. He enjoyed Life, socializing, and spending time with family and friends. Everyone was welcome in his home and at his table.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed sorely by all the lives he has touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is survived by his daughter Samantha (James) Northcutt, son Alister (April) Bilyou, 6 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 6 great-grandsons, and 4 great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cho in honor of his memory.
