Albert Mckee

December 30, 1899 — January 20, 2015

Albert L. McKee, 84, of Zionsville passed away Tuesday Evening surrounded by his family. He was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the son of Glenard and Reva (Joy) McKee. He was a gifted basketball player and athlete, and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He was a Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean War serving from 1950-1953. He started his career in the property/casualty insurance business in 1960, and later established McKee Insurance Agency (now Mid States Insurance) in 1975, a business he owned until 1996. An active member of his community, he was in Lion's Club, serving as president in 1979-80. He was also a member of the Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge # 760 in Zionsville. He was a Zionsville Volunteer Fireman for many years and served on the board of the Sullivan-Munce Museum. An avid golfer, Al was instrumental in starting the Zionsville Boys and Girls Club Annual Golf Outing, an event he was involved in for many years. He was a member of the Zionsville Christian Church since 1962 and served as an Elder. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Jo), daughter, Julie; sons, Pat and his wife Sharon, and Jim; and granddaughters, Hannah and Hayley; his brothers, Clyde McKee of Roswell, NM and William McKee of Sedalia, MO; Mike McKee of Mt. Vernon, IL and Jim McKee of Jeffersonville, IN; his sister, Patty Latta of Brownsburg, IN and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Al's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St., Zionsville, IN. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time at the Church. Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Zionsville entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Zionsville Christian Church or your favorite charity in memory of Al.
