Albert Lowrie Hunt Jr. passed away onJuly 22, 2016 in Pleasanton, CA at the age of 87. Al was born on July 20, 1929 in Harrisburg,PA and lived in many states throughout his childhood while following his father’scareer as a railroad engineer. He graduated from Purdue University with adegree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. After serving in the US Army, he settled in Indianapolis, where hestarted his career with the Detroit Diesel Allison division of General Motors,designing helicopter engines. True to Al’slifelong traits of dedication and loyalty, he worked there for 40 years,retiring in 1991 after a successful career. During the summer of 1959, Al metHjordis Jorgensen, a recent immigrant from Norway, and they were married in1960. Together, they raised a loving, close family of three daughters,celebrating their 56th anniversary in March of 2016. Devoted to hisPresbyterian faith, Al served as a deacon and elder at First-Meridian HeightsPresbyterian Church and Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. After 35years in Indianapolis, Al and Hjordis retired to Flat Rock, NC, where hefaithfully served at Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church and was a memberof the Hendersonville Country Club, where they developed many close friendships.In 2014, they moved to California, where Al spent his last years close to hisdaughter and her family in Livermore.
Al will be dearly missed by his wife,Hjordis Jorgensen Hunt, and his daughters, Sonja DiMatteo of Deerfield, IL,Linda Pentaleri of Greenville, SC and Nancy Wigginton of Livermore, CA, who allcelebrated his 87th birthday with him days before his passing. Alwill also be missed by his sons-in-law – Jerry, John and Steve – and his tengrandchildren: Jordan, Jack, Curtis, Isabel, Dylan, Maxwell, Conrad, Jason,Aiden and Camille. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert Lowrie HuntSr. and Emily Lucille Shirey Hunt, his brothers Eden and Charles Hunt, and hissister Shirley Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Ave, Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568. A familyservice will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00am at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Dr,Indianapolis, IN 46228.
